Our Ultimate List of Christmas Movies
What better way to cozy up and get into the Christmas spirit, than a magical holiday movie?! Curling up with our favourite movie snacks and blankets is the perfect start to December (or start earlier in November, like we do)! One of our Christmas traditions is to watch our favourite holiday movies as a family. At the start of the season, we make our must watch list and slowly work our way through them!
We’ve gathered up a mix of movies for everyone – some old and some new! This list includes movies that we watch over and over again every year, and a few new ones sprinkled in. Most are family friendly, with a few that are better suited for teenagers/adults. Without further ado, here is a list of the 10 must watch Christmas movies. Oh, and don’t forget the good ol’ Hallmark movies too!
Our list isn’t in any particular order, because we couldn’t agree on which one would be number one!
Home Alone
A classic must watch Christmas movie! This one is watched at least twice every holiday season and it never disappoints! Everyone in the family enjoys it!
The Santa Clause 1 and 2
This is another classic movie, and there are a number of them in the series. We enjoyed all three in the franchise. They actually released new episodes last year on Disney+ that we are looking forward to watching.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
In our family we enjoy both the 1966 and the Jim Carrey versions. They are both so different but bring just as much laughter and Christmas fun!
Miracle on 34th Street
I’ve loved this 1994 movie since I was a child and hope to watch it with Avery this holiday season. It’s just a feel good Christmas movie that always makes me smile (and cry a little too).
Elf
How can you not love this movie?! We watch it every year and it always makes us laugh! Some of the situations Buddy the Elf gets himself into are pretty comical!
Family Stone
This cast is absolutely amazing and this holiday movie will most likely leave you in tears, but in a good way.
The Holiday
I don’t feel like the holidays have really started, until I’ve cozied up with a bowl of popcorn and watch this holiday favourite. Every year it makes me want to visit the UK at Christmas time.
Frosty the Snowman
This animated classic is perfect for the whole family. It reminds us of holiday movies from our childhood. You can’t help but sing along!
Deck the Halls
These neighbours’ shenanigans make you roll your eyes and laugh at their festive competition.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
Marissa and I disagree on this one! We watch it yearly with my husband’s family and it’s become a tradition in the last few years. Our holiday season isn’t complete without a dose of the Griswold’s!
This year we are also hoping to watch It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas and A Christmas Story for the first time! We hope you enjoy watching some of the movies on our list – let us know your favourites!
