Christmas Lights Tradition
It’s such a busy time of year, with so much on the go! It’s nice sometimes to just slow down for a little while.
I’ve always loved the Christmas season, for as long as I can remember, as our parents always made it feel so special. Once I became a mom, I wanted to bring that joy into our little family. Experiencing the excitement through a child’s eye is absolutely amazing. I feel traditions are what makes Christmas so magical. When Avery looks back on her childhood holidays, I hope she remembers how she felt during that time.
One of the most festive parts about Christmas for me is all the lights! They bring so much joy and I look for ways to incorporate them into our holiday season. Whether it be putting as many lights as possible on the tree, to outdoor lights or some sprinkled throughout the house, they just make the house feel magical.
One of our favourite ways as a family to enjoy the twinkling lights is our annual Christmas Express. Avery looks forward to it every year, and the best part is she doesn’t know what day I’ll surprise her with it. We introduced this tradition into our family five years ago and it’s become a favourite for all of us.
At bedtime one night in December, she’ll be ready for bed, and she pulls back the blankets to discover a round trip ticket for the Christmas Express! The ticket provides her with a ride to drive around (that same night) and look at Christmas lights, while listening to festive music and drinking a nice warm cup of hot chocolate and maybe a little holiday treat (oh, and wearing some Christmas pajamas, of course)!
